Today you have two goals for when you're done.
1. Complete this survey honestly. For teacher type in Mr. Flaten and I'll get the results, note: your name will not appear and I won't know who did which survey. :) I'll use your feedback to work on making the class better for you.
2. Xtramath.org
3. You may play games or do other quiet things until all are finished or time runs out. Thanks!
This blog started as a math tool when I was a middle school math teacher, I've moved to other career options now and will broaden out the content. Welcome.

Least Common Multiples
Yesterday we did the Star Assessment, lots of data should come out of that and help to see strengths and gaps for each student.
Thursday though, we're on to the topic of LCM or least common multiple. Guess what? It's just like GCF, but you multiply all of the outside numbers together.
We'll watch the video today:
Today use this form to answer the review questions:

Prime Factorization
Today we are starting prime factors and leading into greatest common factor and least common multiple. Also, the first quiz is entered in the grade book.

First Quiz of the Year
Today we are completing the first graded quiz of the year, it will be graded in three categories:
1. Whole number operations
2. Exponents
3. Order of Operations
There will be many opportunities to show knowledge of these topics if you scored a 1 or 2, including the test at the end of the chapter.
Tomorrow is an early release day, so not a normal math day, so we will resume on Thursday with Prime Factorization.

Whole Number Operations, Specifically Long Division
Today we did more Long Division, I was excited to see so many students know how to do this already. The biggest struggles I saw were putting the wrong numbers up and having to redo the calculations and knowledge of basic math facts. We'll get there. I was also pleased to hear that some students told me, "This doesn't seem as hard as I thought it would be!" Good stuff!

Whole Numbers Operations
Today we reviewed whole number addition, subtraction, and most importantly long division. Our focus of Tuesday will be long division. There are four steps:
1. Divide
2. Multiply
3. Subtract
4. Bring Down
That's it! We repeat that process until we run out of numbers to divide.
Also, we learned a little bit about Khan Academy. This is a place to work on math more independently and also practice different levels of difficulty. All the way from K to post secondary skills are found here. There is a direct link on the right side of this page.

Intro to ChomeBooks Today
Today we continue rotations and each student will attempt to log in to them and learn the basics of how to use the computers. We use these for a lot of different tasks in math class, so this is step one.
If you got to this page, please work on the form below:
