Check UP day and blog crossover event

Today we are checking how much you've learned and remember by completing a term 1 check up sheet.  We will share these sheets at conferences as well.  When it is complete please do the rest of the events on the board.  Finally, Mr. Nelson found cooler math games than I could, so please visit his blog to check them out:

Enjoy the longer than normal weekend and don't forget to set back any old school clocks that don't do it themselves.

The day after the Fractions and Decimals Test

Today we get the results back from yesterday's test.

There is a list of things we need to do today before we get started on the next chapter.

First, we have a student survey please click on it and submit your answers

STEP ONE STUDENT SURVEY CLICK HERE

Second, please get your test from the small table in the front of the room under the multiplication table.  Check with me if you have questions.  There are two grades the one on the left is for fractions and the right is for decimals.  Highlighted numbers on the second sheet are correct and may have led to you getting a 4 on either of the standards.

Third, go to www.khanacademy.org and do the recommended skills that I recommended for you.

That should take most of the day, congrats on being one fifth of the way though the learning for math this year.  Any ones we'll work on a retake opportunity later this week.

Chocolate Fix and Multiplying Decimals

Golden Hour Games
http://www.thinkfun.com/playonline

Today we are multiplying decimals, the biggest thing is to not line up the decimals, but to count them at the end.

Set up like a normal multiplication problem, solve it, then count how many decimal spaces are in the factors and then move it from the right to left in the product.

When you finish the practice problems, please put your answers on this form:

Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Today we start with the first of three decimal operations days.  We will cover two of the four on the first day, addition and subtraction.

Here's the basic tip of the day: LINE UP THE DECIMALS

That's it, it's really that simple.  Of course you need to be able to perform the correct mathematical practices to get the correct answer.

Think of it like the buttons on a shirt.
