Today is the day that we see how much we've processed and stored in our memory. It is the day that we see how much we've learned. It is the day to see if we have the tools in our toolbox to solve the problems that arise in front of us on the sheet of paper.
To me there are different reactions to this process. Some will get right to work, challenge accepted. Some will begin and try different things with varied success. Some will see the struggle ahead and retreat.
However, this is a process over product situation (Inky Johnson) you may get the wrong answer, but is the process correct. Ultimately you will still have the wrong answer if you are wrong, but doing the correct process will yield results that are favorable more often than not.
Which team are you on? Do your best. If it went well, feel satisfaction in your hard work. If it did not go well, modify, fix, re-learn, and start over for the next challenge.

Finished Pretest and on to Long Division
Today we submitted the pretest and will check back later on to see how much progress we make throughout the year. Tomorrow we begin whole number operations. If you want a head start or to review here is a video from math antics that does a pretty good job explaining. You could consider this your "homework" since we don't have an assignment yet.

First math problems and some games if you are interested
Today we did a quick overview of some math problems. Some were challenging and some were easier. Hopefully you have a feel of getting back into working with numbers to find solutions. :)
So, if you finished and you want to relax a bit here are two games you can try out. You might like one more than the other.
1. A game called Basketballs from hoodamath. You get to make baskets and knock over refs using arcs and angles.

2. A game from think fun called rush hour. Some of you have seen this before. Your goal is the drive the red car out of the exit by moving other cars around. There are three levels if the first one is too easy.

See you tomorrow when we'll get started with the bigideasmath site.
