Penny Floor and Practice Test
Math II
Today we are going to talk about a penny floor (yes, it's a thing)
Use this link: Penny Floor
Also, we'll try to level up on some less than 2 scored skills.

Math I
Practice Test today. Nice job on the review yesterday. Keep reducing fractions and moving decimals.

More algebra and some decimals
Math II
Watch this video if you are still wondering how to solve using algebra:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7Xx7Xfs-QY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math I
Intro to decimals.
Show your work and it will be a breeze.
Today we start with the first of three decimal operations days. We will cover two of the four on the first day, addition and subtraction.
Here's the basic tip of the day: LINE UP THE DECIMALS
That's it, it's really that simple. Of course you need to be able to perform the correct mathematical practices to get the correct answer.

No School Today, but a Playlist
I'm working on a playlist for you because many of you ask me about what type of music I listen to, here's a small sample and I'll add it to the quick links.

Expressions and Multiplying Fractions
CARES
Today we watched a video called Caine's Arcade about a young man who created his own arcade out of cardboard boxes. Then we talked about how his character and perseverance grew because of the experience. Search it on youtube if you wish to see what I'm talking about.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math II
Interesting development. We need to circle back to learn how the basics of algebra work. Letters have shown up and we're "totally freaking out!" (Peg and Cat reference for those of you who know that show.)
Tomorrow we start filling in the holes and go from there. However, I did get to show them how to find terms and like terms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math I
Multiplying Fractions. Today we focus on reducing and pre-simplifying. Arguably one of the more persistent challenges in the first semester.

Math 2 test updates and Starting Chapter 2 with Math 1
CARES (answer these in your table group. You can skip the second one if you want, it's kind of weird.)
Math 2: Today we will review the test we just tried and then see which areas we need to work on.
Math 1: We're starting Multiplying Fractions today. Make sure you dust off those math facts. It will make it so much easier.
Game if you get done early:
Snow Sprint

Test and other math items for today
Math 2 : Big Ideas Test today on Rational Numbers. Numbers 7 and 16 are challenge problems. We'll see what, if anything, we need to review next week. We will also be submitting today and then resubmitting them on Monday to fix any errors you might have made.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math 1 : Task List #1 today.
You'll get a math task list and learn how to screen shot as well.
Group discussion about "The locker riddle" is our intro today.

More Rational Numbers and Getting Back an Assessment
Math 1
Today we will get back our assessment for chapter 1 and talk about what's next and how you did.
If you want to watch a review video on any topic from Chapter 1, check here:

for fun: Suit Up

Math 2
Today we did the practice test for Chapter 2 (Rational Numbers) in small groups so they could communicate and share knowledge. It was awesome to hear the students saying things like:

Today we did the practice test for Chapter 2 (Rational Numbers) in small groups so they could communicate and share knowledge. It was awesome to hear the students saying things like:
- show me how you did that
- oh, I see what I did
- Now this seems a lot easier
And the popular, but not very helpful
- I did it in my head
Test tomorrow. :) .

Rational Numbers and Chapter 1 Test
Couple of things going on today:
Cares: Grade Check and missing work report. We also watched an interesting video of kids reacting to the "old" computer. An Apple from the early 1980s. Or as I call it, my childhood.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math 1: Today is the first test of the course. It's on Long Division, Powers/Exponents, Order of Operations, GCF, and LCM. We'll see how it goes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math 2: Oh boy, lots of stuff to review and start to use.
Here's the note/practice sheet from today: 2.4 Note/Practice Sheet
The goal was (is) to be able to fluently multiply and divide rational numbers. In doing so, we had to review a few things, for example:
1. Changing a mixed number into an improper fraction
2. How to divide fractions
3. Multiplying decimals and what happens to the point in the answer
4. What are brackets and how are they different from parenthesis?
5. Review multiplying fractions
6. If the signs are positive or negative what's the answer going to be?
7. How to set up the problem for the most success.
8. Exponents and how to find something to the third power
I think that's about it. I had to talk/teach a lot, so we'll do some extra independent practice tomorrow.
